Tribology is the science of moving surfaces in contact. It is a highly complex field in which many disciplines from natural and engineering sciences are addressed! Basically, tribology is a multi-scale issue and one has to consider effects on the nano-, micro- and macroscopic scale in order to understand the processes involved and subsequently to provide solutions.
